PERTH AMBOY – 3/10/16 Board of Education Meeting.

Board Vice President Israel Varela had a question about the Perth Amboy Police Dept. conducting Active Shooter Training utilizing the Perth Amboy High School. “During the times that they will be having the training, no staff members or parents are in the building. It will be a dry run, and not really prepared for it.”

Dr. Roman responded, “Are security and the Police Department will be working on the drills together in April.”

Board Member Anthony Bermudez said, “Our security is the front line.”

Dr. Roman came back and said, “They will be having a meeting with the Police Department on Monday” (3/14/16).

The Board Attorney cautioned the members, “We can’t talk in public about activities concerning security.”

Board Secretary Derek Jess said, “The first training session is supposed to be taking place  at 10 p.m. tonight, so we all will be participating.”

Board Member Ken Puccio said, “I have participated in this (active shooter training) in the past. They actually shoot at you.”

The motion was moved by Buidlings & Grounds Chairperson Israel Varela, seconded by Jose Rodriguez. Board Members Anthony Bermudez and Ken Puccio both abstained. Everyone else voted “Yes.” Board Member Anton Massopust was not present at the Meeting.
