PERTH AMBOY – Betsy Rodriguez, who was a 2010 alumna of Perth Amboy High School and a youth development specialist, spoke during the public portion. The holistic program that she is a part of is under the New Jersey Dept. of Children and Families. She emphasized that this program helps build academic, social skills and interview skills in students.
“I work with the guidance counselors, and each of them has about 300 students,” she said.
She wanted to thank Mr. Mosley and the Board of Education and would like to participate in planning of the new High School.
Board Member Anthony Bermudez said, “I heard that you do good work, help students get into college.”
Rodriguez also fielded a quesition from a Board Member who wanted to know if they only help students who are college bound. Rodriguez emphasized that they also schedule trips for students who want to go to technical schools. “We have also worked with ROTC students.”
Board Member Obi Gonzalez said, “Ms. Rodriguez also has an office in the High School. Besides helping with college entries and financial aid, this youth development program helps students with all kinds of problems.”
