Remember the times when the newspaper would always be notified when promotions were taking place in the Police and Fire Department. For some reason, these notifications have been dwindling down. It upsets us, especially when family members of those who received promotions call the newspaper and ask why photos never appeared in our paper. It’s sad when we have to tell them, “We were never notified.”

We received a call from a family member from a promoted Fireman. They said they pickup our paper weekly and were surprised that their son’s promotion was not in our paper.

Not only that, but  he mentioned that the saw the photos on the internet connected to one of the daily papers. We do not know how that photo was obtained. All we know, is we weren’t notified.

As a matter of fact, we found out about the first Hispanic Female Sergeant looking at the newsfeed from the Mayor’s Facebook Page  when we were waiting for a luncheon to begin at PRAHD.

Often at Council Meetings, Council Members will mention different events taking place in the near future. Perhaps a new practice should begin. The Council President should be given a list of all upcoming promotions, time date and place. I’m sure the families of those being promoted would be thankful and so would we.

With all the turmoil going on during the Council Meetings, this good news is welcome. Granted, it’s hard for us to be present at all of these promotions, but we would appreciate if photos can be submitted. We will be more than happy to put them in our paper.

It should not be the family’s place to notify us. I don’t want to just put Perth Amboy on the spot, but we also circulate in South Amboy, Sayreville and Woodbridge. If those respective police/fire departments in those municipalities wish to submit photos of their promotions, they are welcome to do so. We do look at other news publications, monthly, weekly and sometimes daily and see that often photos are supplied to them. We only ask for the same courtesy.

We have readers who belong to organizations or are involved in the school system (Catholic and Public) and always submit photos/information when something happens or someone does something outstanding. If you ask us, I think the promotions within the two departments will qualify. It only takes a few seconds for this to be done.
