SAYREVILLE – An off-duty Sayreville Police Officer was found shot to death in the parking lot of the old Amboy Cinemas according to police (Parkway & Rte. 9 side of the former movie theater)

During a press conference from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, the following was stated: At 7:15 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 a call came in to the Sayreville Police Department. When Police responded, they found a male body that appeared to have died of gunshot wounds. The victim was identified a Sayreville Police Officer who was in his personal vehicle.

Last year he was one of three Sayreville Police Officers honored by the 200 Club of Middlesex County. He is the Officer pictured in the middle of the photo. Officer Kurtz was a nine year veteran of the force and recently promoted to Detective. Photo by Joe Bayona.
