Sayreville Detective Takes His Own Life

SAYREVILLE – It was confirmed by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Sayreville Police Department that Detective Kurtz took his own life. He was found dead in his personal vehicle in the parking lot of the old Amboy Cinemas in Sayreville on 3/21/16.

Funeral Services were held for the decorated Officer on Thursday, March 24, 2016.

The detective was one of three Sayreville Police Officers that were honored by the 200 Club of Middlesex County. He was survived by his wife, two young children and other immediate family members.

Besides the Community of Sayreville, there were mourners who traveled from across the nation to pay their respects and offer their support.

There is a gofundme account to help support the education of his children.

The family as also requested that contributions be sent in Matthew’s memory to the Sayreville Association for Brain Injured Children, 251 Jernee Mill Road, Sayreville, NJ 08872
