Vendors Wanted

Memorial Day Parade and Services
SOUTH AMBOY – The South Amboy Memorial Day Parade is being held on the Saturday prior to Memorial Day Weekend to encourage participation by our citizens. Please join us, Saturday, May 21, as we salute our servicemen and women!  All Veterans are invited to march with us!! Are uou South Amboy’s Oldest Living Veteran? ‘British Bombardment of Perth Amboy in 1776’ film presentation
PERTH AMBOY – On Monday, May 23, the Woodbridge Historical Association will present a film documentary produced by John Kerry Dyke, The British Bombardment of Perth Amboy in 1776, as well as a discussion of the patriots’ defense led by Donald Johnstone Peck.  The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Downstairs Meeting Room of the Woodbridge Main Library at 1 George Frederick Plaza and Route 35.  The program is free to the public.
This documentary is based upon eyewitness accounts that unfolded during the tumultuous latter half of 1776 in the colonial capital of Perth Amboy. It recaptures the long forgotten saga of the last royal capital in New Jersey through period images, 18th century music and reenactors.
John Kerry Dyke has made several historical documentaries of Perth Amboy. Donald Peck is the author of numerous books, monographs and published articles on eighteenth century history of Middlesex County and New Jersey. He is a trustee of the League of New Jersey Historical Societies and the Historical Association of Woodbridge Township. Mr. Peck also is a past president of the Raritan-Millstone Heritage Alliance, Somerset and the Proprietary House Association of Perth Amboy as well as an active member in numerous historical organizations.

Ladies Auxiliary Post #4699 Meeting
SAYREVILLE – The Ladies Auxiliary of Post #4699 will hold their monthly meeting on May 24, at 7 p.m. The meeting will consist of a short meeting; then there will be a memorial service for the deceased members of our auxiliary plus installation of new officers being installed this night. Greek Festival
St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church of Perth Amboy invites the public to enjoy a celebration of Greek culture & food, live music, dancing, shopping and fun at our annual Greek Festival by the Bay. June 3-5, 2016, Rain or Shine! Located at 41-47 Wisteria Street and Sadowski Parkway, Perth Amboy, NJ
This family-friendly celebration is hosted on the lawn of the church’s community center, alongside the beautiful waterfront of Perth Amboy. Proceeds from the event help to fund the Church’s community activities and parish ministries.
Traditional Greek delicacies such as souvlaki, gyros, spanakopita (spinach pie), dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), and moussaka (baked eggplant), as well as delicious desserts like baklava (walnut strudel) and loukoumades (honey puffs) will be on offer the whole weekend, all made fresh on the premises by festival volunteers. Imported Greek beer and wine, along with a variety of non- alcoholic beverages, will be available to complete the epicurean experience. Food & beverage trucks from local vendors will supply additional culinary delights. Visitors can dine inside the air-conditioned community center or outside under a large tent.
Enjoy live Greek music all weekend. The award-winning St. Demetrios Greek Youth Dance Groups will provide entertainment for visitors throughout the weekend, with dancers ranging in age from 5-25+ years old. Inspired by the performances? Take a free dance lesson: “LEARN TO DANCE LIKE ZORBA” classes will be offered 3x’s a day. Visit the children’s area for a magic show, face painting, and prizes.
Be sure to save time for shopping! Visit the many craft and goods vendors, as well as the “public good” table courtesy of Raritan Bay Medical Center. FEELING LUCKY? Our grand prize raffle is a trip to Greece for two, airfare and tour included, along with other wonderful prizes. In addition, Church tours will be offered for those wishing to see the beautifully restored St. Demetrios’ sanctuary and learn more about the Orthodox faith.

Historical Re-Enactment

Catholic Charities Connections Program
MIDDLESEX COUNTY – The Connections Program of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen, a voluntary child to adult match program is seeking adult volunteers to provide a positive friend relationship to children and youth that has suffered a loss or has special needs.  These children reside in Middlesex County and Franklin Township and are in desperate need of a positive role model.  Adult Volunteers are being sought to make a difference in the lives of children and youth through one-to-one activities.
Any individual 18 years old or older, of any ethnic, religious or economic background, who is interested in making a positive impact on a child’s life is eligible to become an adult volunteer mentor.

Vet’s Coffee House

Tea Room Open
PERTH AMBOY – The Proprietary House is now open every Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for tea and tours.  The tea room has reopened, serving their usual delicious homemade cakes and assorted teas.  Hostesses Dot, Helen and Joanne are back to greet you.  A $7.00 donation includes both the tea and a tour of the mansion.  Although the house is still in the process of being restored, some rooms have been newly decorated, and we have acquired several pieces of antique furniture, including a 1700’s desk and game table. The gift shop is also opened. A visit to the tea room is the perfect way to spend a pleasant afternoon. Dowdell Library Foundation DVD &Recorded Media Drive
SOUTH AMBOY – Your fall cleanout is done and you’re wondering what to do with all of those unwanted DVD’s, CD’s, and video games. How about donating them to South Amboy’s Sadie Pope Dowdell Library?  Just bring those unwanted items to the library, during regular hours. No VHS please! This program has been running since 2012 collecting thousands of DVD’s and other electronic media for the library.  Those generous donations have enabled the library to increase its resources for the benefit of South Amboy residents and the surrounding communities.

PERTH AMBOY – Live Music every Saturday Night at 8 p.m. at Al Cibelli’s Night Club, 1096 Convery Blvd., Perth Amboy. Music in the downstairs lounge. Must be 21 to enter and drink. Extra parking across the street.


Notice: Community Announcements or “Shorts”
The Amboy Guardian is committed to serving the community. However, due to the rising cost of print publication, we are forced to now charge a small fee for community announcements in our print version. We will provide one complimentary short paragraph or “short” per event. After your event “short” is published for one week, there will be a $5.00 fee per week charge for each additional “short” published pertaining  to that particular event. For those who pay for a display ad, there will be no fee for additional shorts pertaining to the event in the paid display ad. To our regular loyal advertisers who hold community events, your “short” announcements will remain complimentary. Effective 1/1/16. Thank you.
