Reenactment of the Arrest of William Franklin

Slated for Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.

PERTH AMBOY – A dramatic reenactment of the June, 1776 arrest of William Franklin, the last Royal Governor of New Jersey, will take place in Perth Amboy at Proprietary House, the Royal Governor’s Mansion, on Sunday, June 12 at 1:00 p.m. William, Benjamin Franklin’s son, was considered a traitor to the Patriot cause because of his loyalty to King George III, and therefore, the Continental Congress ordered his arrest.  As part of the upcoming drama, you will witness the arrest of Governor Franklin by Colonel Nathanial Heard and his militia while the governor’s grieving wife looks on.  This colorful event is sure to please the audience.  Kurt Epps will again portray Governor Franklin, while Gene Hoyas will continue in the role of Colonel Nathanial Heard.

Other activities during the afternoon will include free tours of the historic mansion, shopping in the museum gift shop, enjoying light refreshments and interacting with the museum’s trustees and volunteers.  Admission is free, donations are always welcome.
