NAACP Local Branches Host Community Prayer Power Vigil: Prayer for ACTION!

Press Release 9/3/16
CARTERET, PERTH AMBOY, RAHWAY, SAYREVILLE, SOUTH AMBOY, AND WOODBRIDGE TOWNSHIP – Two local NAACP branches unite with the faith community to join in Prayer for ACTION! The recent tragedies that our nation has faced with violence and the deaths of unarmed black men and women and law enforcement officers creates a greater sense of urgency for our faith communities to come together. It is incumbent upon our faith leaders and our congregations to leverage their power to create lasting change. The prayer vigil will be held on Friday, September 16, at the First Baptist Church located at 130 Sewaren Ave., Sewaren, NJ, beginning at 10 am
The event is chaired by Rev. Lance Nelson, Senior Pastor of New Beginnings Church and Ministry of Perth Amboy & Perth Amboy Police Department Chaplain. The host Pastor is Rev. Neva Lawson of First Baptist Church of Woodbridge. These faith leaders will be joined by the Perth Amboy Police Chaplains and other local faith leaders in prayer.
NAACP has a rich heritage of working within the faith communities to mobilize and take action. It’s time to continue this important work.  “The nation’s focus on race relations, violence in our communities, policies and practices that simply are not fairly enforced within housing and the criminal justice sectors are just a few reasons why the NAACP is relevant,” says NAACP Perth Amboy Area Branch President Ms. Elizabeth Williams-Riley. “NAACP’s role in the fight for justice is essential in providing information and tools for people to stand firmly against unjust systems.”
“We are in one of the most trying times moving forward with this year’s election—let’s not wait to see how high the tides swell, which way the winds blow, or how the earth moves. Prayer is what we need now and thereafter. Come out and join the caravan of hope and prayer. Faith is the key,” says Ronald McCray NAACP Rahway Branch President.
Clergy from congregations throughout the local area will focus on our civic leaders, families, community, unity, and much more. The vigil will also showcase local talent and present information on the new GOTV campaign and NAACP local branches.  This event is free!
