PERTH AMBOY – Mr. Miguel Nunez, 40-year Perth Amboy resident and business owner, flanked by his city council running mates, Virgnia Lugo and Miriam Quiles, delivered petitions of nominations to Perth Amboy City Clerk, Elaine M. Jasko at Perth Amboy City Hall this afternoon.

Mr. Nunez, referring to the campaign’s slogan said, “’SERVING ALL PEOPLE. FOR A CHANGE!’ is a clear message. We believe Perth Amboy’s elected officials have only been serving themselves. I am running for Mayor to give back to the city that I love.” Mr. Nunez, continued “While we are a city of immigrants, representing flags from all over the world, we must unite under the American Flag, and under the banner that says Perth Amboy. We will build coalitions to find common ground and focus on issues that face ALL Perth Amboy residents. We will rise and succeed together!”

Ms. Virginia Lugo, a thirty year financial and real estate services professional, said, “Our goal in this campaign is to shine a bright light on how this City should be run. Perth Amboy needs new leadership to gain the respect we deserve as a beautiful historic city. Solving problems like rising taxes, terrible parking conditions, crumbling infrastructure, rising crime and proper education of our children can bond us as a community.”

Miriam Quiles, operations manager for a major technology company, resident, mother, and grandmother stated, “I am a regular citizen, who has worked hard and paid my taxes faithfully. Other communities have grown, while our city has been allowed to run down, with increasing fear of crime and drugs. If regular citizens like me don’t stand up, who will? I want to help rebuild this beautiful city and serve ALL the people in our community.”

Mr. Nunez emphatically stated, “This will be a door to door effort, focused on listening to the people and centered on real issues. Our ‘Your Voice Matters’ campaign (#YourVoiceMatters) will provide our residents an opportunity to really be heard. We have seen on the national stage that people are fed up with politics as usual. On the local level, the mayor has initiated policies and deals, rubber stamped by an ineffective city council, that have hurt our city. We want ALL the people of Perth Amboy to stand with us and shout ‘Enough!’.”
