Called the “City by the Bay Classic Car Show,” the free exhibition is sponsored by the City of Perth Amboy, the Business Improvement District, the Police Department, and the City’s Recreation Department. The event begins at 12 noon and runs until 4 PM. In addition to all the cars, there will be food vendors as well as merchants selling automobile memorabilia, equipment and clothing.

Everyone is invited to Perth Amboy’s classic car show. While in the City people shop in the downtown stores or dine in one of the many restaurants. For more information, call 732.826.1690 (ext. 4050) or 732.442.6421.

Members of Raritan Bay Cruisers have partnered with the BID in organizing the show. They also invited neighboring car clubs to attend and will stage the autos along High Street. Members of the car clubs will judge the entries, and trophies will be presented by Mayor Diaz to owners of the top cars.

Also, Ralph Miranda, president of the Raritan Bay Cruisers, said, “We are asking car owners and visitors to bring nutritious, canned food items to the car show. All the items will be donated to the Salvation Army Perth Amboy Corps. Our goal is to gather tons of food and wow the crowd by presenting a huge fleet of astonishing classic cars.”

Perth Amboy’s car show has grown dramatically since the first event when 20 cars were displayed. This year, High Street will be filled with superbly restored and exquisitely maintained vehicles from the “Golden Age of American Automobiles.” Guests will get a close-up view of cars loaded with gleaming chrome, custom exteriors, hand-crafted interiors and powerful engines. Classic car owners will gladly answer questions about the vehicles’ features, unique history and the restoration process.

To help recreate a feeling of the 1950s and 1960s, vocalists from “Sounds of the Street” will harmonize together as they sing legendary “Doo Wop” songs. Richie the DJ is bringing and playing a library of classic Rock ‘n’ Roll hits by top performers of the period.

By combining musical sounds of the period with classic cars, Perth Amboy is recreating an era when America went cruising every Friday and Saturday night.

Classic Car Show concludes with Mayor Diaz presenting trophies to owners with top autos including the three-foot tall award that honors the “Best Automobile at the Event.”
