PERTH AMBOY – The required number of eligible petitions in order for a candidate to be placed on the November 8, 2016 ballot is 250.
All four candidates for Mayor (Wilda Diaz, Joel Pabon, Miguel Nunez and Sharon Hubberman) and those who had running mates for Council turned in their required amount petitions needed to be considered to get on the ballot.
Wilda Diaz is seeking reelection and her two running mates: Councilman Fernando Irizarry (seeking reelection) and Jelmin Caba (who ran in 2014 for Council) were the first ones to hand in their petitions on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016.
The following are the number of petitions handed in by Diaz’s Slate. Wilda Diaz: 1336; Fernando Irizarry: 1231 and Jelmin Caba: 1208.
The three other tickets filed before 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 which was the deadline.
The Nunez’ Slate “Serving All People” was the first to hand in petitions. Mayoral Candidate Miguel Nunez submitted a little over 600 petitions. His running mates Virginia Lugo submitted approximately 430 petitions and Miriam Quiles submitted 410 petitions. Nunez previously ran for Council in 2014.
The Pabon Slate “Real Leadership for Perth Amboy” handed their petitions in next. Mayoral Candidate Joel Pabon submitted 1109 petitions; Ken Puccio 1068 and Angel “Mota” Ramirez 1057. Pabon is currently a Councilman.
Mayoral Candidate Sharon Hubberman’s ticket: “We’re Ready: New Vision, Brighter Future” were the last ones to hand in their petitions. Sharon Hubberman submitted 335 petitions and Enid Crespo submitted 320.
Sharon Hubberman previously ran for Mayor in 2012.
