PERTH AMBOY – The trial of Former Perth Amboy Police Chief Ben Ruiz began late last week in New Brunswick Superior Court. Superior Court Judge Diane Pincus is presiding.

Ben Ruiz is charged with the unauthorized use of Police Department Mechanics to work on his personal vehicles and also a personal friend of Ruiz’s vehicle. On top of that, Ruiz is accused of witness tampering.

Some of the witnesses scheduled to testify included Perth Amboy Deputy Police Chief Lawrence Cattano, Miguel Garcia, a Mechanic at the City Police Department Garage and former City Council President and Police Officer Kenneth Balut.

Balut was one of those who brought to light about the allegations against Ruiz getting his personal vehicle repaired in the Police Department Garage.

Testimony is given on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
