PERTH AMBOY – Former Mayoral Candidate Billy Delgado today endorsed Mayor Wilda Diaz and her Stronger Together team citing their record on redevelopment, tax stability and community outreach. He also called on the City Council to take a more positive and constructive approach and work towards building a better city.

“At this point in the city’s history there is no one better to lead us than Mayor Diaz,” said Delgado, who ran against her in 2012. “She has succeeded in attracting new redevelopment project and kept our taxes stable for three years. Most importantly, she has emphasized a message of unity in our city through community policing, the municipal identification program, and quality of life initiatives.”

Delgado added her City Council running mates, incumbent Fernando Irizarry and community activist Jelmin Caba have been positive voices for change in the city. “We need to revamp the current do-nothing City Council. Irizarry has been a steady beacon of reason on an otherwise irrational City Council. Caba is a community leader beloved throughout Perth Amboy. I offer them my enthusiastic support.”

Delgado Cited the following Accomplishments of the Diaz Administration:

  •  Stable taxes for three years as a result of careful fiscal management.
  • Redevelopment of the waterfront, downtown and the neighborhoods.
  • Quality of Life initiatives with an emphasis on building a stronger, unified community.
  • Community Policing with the goal of building a working relationship with the citizenry.
  • Municipal Identification Cards to help members of the community participate in local programs.
  • Judicious Code Enforcement that respects the residents and emphasizes housing safety.

Election Day is November 8.

Accepting Delgado’s Endorsement

September 14, 2016

“I want to thank Billy Delgado for his endorsement,” Mayor Wilda Diaz said at the press conference. “He was a worthy opponent and remains a positive voice for constructive change in our city. I look forward to his continued counsel as we seek to redevelop our city, maintain a stable tax rate, and enhance our quality of life programs.”

“Stronger Together isn’t just our campaign slogan,” said Councilman Irizarry. “Today with the backing of Billy Delgado our team has shown that we don’t just say and post our slogan, but actually live it. I would like to thank Mr. Delgado for his support and for showing what public service is about – serving and working for the people of Perth Amboy.”

Statement by Council Candidate Jelmin Caba

“Billy Delgado has been an important civic leader in our community for more than a decade and I value his support,” said Caba. “It is another step towards unifying our city and building the better Perth Amboy of tomorrow.”
