Elvis De Jesus was a Perth Amboy native who passed away in 2014 at the age of 29 after battling leukemia and becoming legally blind. He found renewed passion and purpose when he discovered Beep Baseball; a game designed for athletes who are blind or vision impaired.
Funds raised last year allowed us to purchase 500 walking canes for visually impaired and blind adults and children in the Dominican Republic. These are distributed through the Francina Hungría Foundation. The white cane is a symbol of a visually impaired person’s independence and self-sufficiency. It empowers them to be productive members of society despite their disability.
