NEW BRUNSWICK – Former Perth Amboy Police Chief Benjamin Ruiz was indicted for theft of services in February 2015. Ruiz pleaded not guilty of the charges. His trial began in the courtroom of Superior Court Judge Diane Pincus in New Brunswick on August 30, 2016. The trial ended on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 just before 5 p.m. when the jury came back with a verdict of not guilty on all counts. The Perth Amboy City Administration terminated Benjamin Ruiz as Chief of Police in early June 2016.
