Pallone Announces $9.8 Million in Federal Funding for Schools

Press Release 10/25/16

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that the state of New Jersey will receive $9,824,640 in federal funding through the Department of Education’s School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These grants are awarded to states for low-achieving schools districts that show the greatest need for assistance and the strongest commitment to using the funds to raise student achievement.

“Improving our schools is one of the most important and necessary things we can do to ensure a better future for our children and communities,” said Pallone. “I am pleased that the Department of Education has awarded this federal grant to New Jersey and given our state the opportunity to improve the schools that need it most.”

Since 2009, the SIG program has invested over $7 billion to improve 1,800 of the country’s lowest performing schools. Data from SIG has shown that schools that receive grants are improving faster than other schools, and particularly improving in math and reading proficiency. This year, the program awarded a total of $427,500,000 to states and territories of the United States.
