PERTH AMBOY – Perth Amboy’s merchants are bursting with holiday cheer and they are ready to celebrate Small Business Saturday on November 26 beginning at noon. Small Business Saturday, which was started in 2010, is dedicated to supporting Perth Amboy’s local businesses, and celebrating downtown shopping districts in communities across the nation. Shoppers can start experiencing holiday joy by coming to Fink Park, at the corner of Madison Avenue and Smith Street.

girl-w-giftMayor Wilda Diaz, the City of Perth Amboy and its Business Improvement District (BID) are organizing activities and events along Madison Avenue on Small Business Saturday. Together with the Jewish Renaissance Foundation (JRF) and P.A.R.T.N.E.R., which are local nonprofit organizations, the City and BID are providing face painting and a balloon artist, as well as special $3 and $10 coupons to shoppers on first come basis. Holiday characters in reindeer and elf costumes will handout treats.

Once again, the BID formed an alliance with American Express to launch the holiday shopping season for small businesses in Perth Amboy.  Similar celebrations are taking place across the United States. The BID earned the “Neighborhood Champion” designation for actively and successfully promoting SmallBusiness Saturday. Merchants and retailers can contact the BID at 732.826.0290, ext. 4050 or by email: rconvery@perthamboy.org to request Small Business Saturday signs, tote bags, and marketing materials.

The BID stands ready to assist retailers, merchants and restaurants by boosting their presence on social media as holiday shopping season begins. By using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and many more social media resources, local businesses can present their merchandise, restaurants and stores to local residents, people in the Garden State and across America.

During Small Business Saturday, students from Academy for Urban Leadership Charter High School are helping place holiday decorations around planters in the downtown shopping district.

Merchants and shoppers can find out more about Small Business Saturday and shopping locally by visiting the BID’s Facebook page or going to ShopSmall.com.
