Herbs 101: Introduction to Herbs

On Wednesday January 25 at 7 pm, Woodbridge Main Library will welcome, educator, author and certified herbalist Gert Coleman.  Coleman will look at all aspects of herbs including how to grow them, cook with them, use them to ease headaches, colds, and other winter ailments.  She will also discuss some of the historical, cultural and mythical lore surrounding herbs.

Coleman has recently retired as Associate Professor of English and Nature Writing at Middlesex County College in New Jersey.  She lives in Staten Island where she serves as the vice president of the Staten Island Herb Society, which helps maintain the Colonial Herb Garden at Conference House Park.

Currently Coleman is the Co-editor of the IHA (International Herb Association) newsletter and a contributor to nine IHA Herb of the Year™ books (calendula, bay, dill, horseradish, rose, elder, artemisia, savory, and capsicum).  She frequently writes about the legends, lore, and poetry of herbs. This year, Coleman is also keeping busy by serving as the Editor of the 2017 Herb of the Year book on Cilantro/Coriander.
