Life and Death of a Movie Theater

WOODBRIDGE – Do you recall the free dinnerware and double feature when you attended the movies long ago? Irv Hyatt, Woodbridge resident and author, will discuss his book, Life and Death of a Movie Theater, at the next Historical Association meeting on January 23.  I. Joseph Hyatt is an entertainment archeologist and author of 26 book covering film and theater. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Union County Performing Arts Center of New Jersey, a fully restored 1928 movie/vaudeville theater.

In this presentation, Mr. Hyatt will tell the story of the State Theater of Woodbridge which was the place to go for over 40 years. He also will include the stories of the five competing Woodbridge theaters and three drive- ins to put the State’s story into perspective. The State ‘s rise and fall reflects the history of many theaters across the United States and around the world during the depression, WWII years, television years and beyond.

Come join the Historical Association of Woodbridge Township and share the memories on Monday, January 23, at 7pm in the Downstairs Meeting Room at the Woodbridge Public Library, corner of George Frederick Plaza and Amboy Avenue.
