19TH DISTRICT— The Office of Assemblyman Craig J. Coughlin released the following statement today:

Assemblyman Craig J. Coughlin, in partnership with Raritan Bay Medical Center Foundation, Middlesex Water Company and Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce, announced today that the Seventh Annual “Bowl for Hunger” raised a Bowl for Hunger-record of $34,860.00. Net proceeds will be divided evenly to the 32 M.C.F.O.O.D.S.-certified food banks in the 19th District.

Assemblyman Coughlin thanks the Raritan Bay Medical Center Foundation, Middlesex Water Company and Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce for partnering again for the Bowl for Hunger—noting that together 78 corporate sponsors and over 600 bowling participants helped to once again make a difference to area food banks. Coughlin beamed, “Strong economy or weak economy, it is remarkable to witness the incredible generosity of our community. In fact, we grew revenue by $7,655 over last year—the single largest year over year growth. This is a community that truly cares.”

Michael R. D’Agnes, President of Raritan Bay Medical Center said, “Raritan Bay Medical Center and our Foundation are honored and privileged to be a part of the Bowl for Hunger. We truly recognize that people rely on food banks. As the primary medical resource in the 19th District coverage area, we have a strong interest in maintaining a healthy community.”

Middlesex Water Chairman and President Dennis Doll stated, “Since its inception, this event has united people in a very basic common cause — to help put food on the table for those in need in our own community. We’re grateful for our long time participation in the Bowl for Hunger and the good work being performed by area food banks in serving the needs of area residents.”

Karen Barnes, Executive Director of the Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce, served the integral role of donation depository. “The Chamber is pleased to support our members who contribute to the Bowl for Hunger fundraising efforts. Like our partners, we understand the challenges facing some of the families in our communities so we are happy to assist the very customers who patronize our businesses.”

Peter Barcellona, Chairman of Woodbridge’s “We Feed” Committee, a committee comprised of all 11 Township food banks, called the $987.40 to each food bank a “blessing.”  Barcellona praised the efforts of the Bowl for Hunger partnership for bringing food banks to the forefront. He cited Woodbridge Township’s food banks alone as providing food for 600 families each month.

The Seventh Annual “Bowl for Hunger” took place August 4th at Hopelawn’s Majestic Lanes, welcoming over 600 participants from the local community. With the help of the Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce, 78 corporate, community and individual sponsors donated at least $100.00 to support the cause.
