Suggestion for DPW Equipment

Kenneth Feeley

SOUTH AMBOY – Although the DPW and Emergency Services were praised by the Council and Mayor at the 3/15/17 Council Meeting, they also responded to some of the shortcomings that occurred the recent 3/14/17 snowstorm.

Business Administrator Camille Tooker stated, “We still have issues with snow removal and the Department of Public Works are working on the situation as we speak.”

Mayor Henry remarked, “The Department of Public Works did a great job, but I know it’s not perfect. I also want to thank the residents for getting their vehicles off the street which helped out during the storm.”

Resident Tom Kross said, “The DPW did a great job with what they have, but they need updated equipment.”

Councilman Brian McLaughlin said, “The crosswalks by the school were not cleared. That’s why school was closed today.”

Tooker responded, “We have in our budget to get new equipment for the Department of Public Works.”

Council President Mickey Gross stated, “We need to have outside vendors for emergencies.”

Resident Kenneth Feeley suggested, “The City should look into getting a piece of equipment called a SKID STEER. We have a skeleton crew. With this piece of equipment you can move ten times as much snow than with the equipment you have now. This equipment can also be used year round for other types of debris removal. You also have need to have trained personnel on this type of equipment.”
