PERTH AMBOY – Michelle Roman is a lifelong resident of the City of Perth Amboy, arriving at the age of seven from Puerto Rico. She attended Perth Amboy High School, graduating in 1991 and ranking ninth in her graduating class. Ms. Roman was a member of both the National and Hispanic Honor Societies in high school, as well as a member of the Rutgers Upward Bound Program.

After graduating high school, Ms. Roman attended   Rutgers University, Douglass College, graduating with Honors in 1995. While attending Rutgers University, she was a member of the Douglass College Government Association, Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Golden Key Honor Society, Jameson Judicial Committee and Dean’s List.

In 1995, Ms. Roman, entered Rutgers University-School of Law, Newark — where she gained membership into the Woman’s Rights Law Reporter and her Topical Summary, “The Partial Birth Abortion Act: The Undue Burden It Places on Women” was chosen for publication in the Woman Right Law Reporter.  In college, Ms. Roman served as a member of the Association of Latin American Law Student and was a summer intern for the Honorable Mathias Rodriguez, J.S.C., Middlesex County Superior Court, Criminal Part.

Michelle Roman has been a practicing attorney of the State of New Jersey for over 17 years.  After graduating law school, she began her law career working for Central Jersey Legal Services and the Law Office of Kenneth L. Gonzalez & Associates LLC. In 2005, she served as Principal of her own firm, the Law Office of Michelle Roman, Esq., LLC. which she opened with her former law partner, Bathsheba A. Carde, Esq.  The Law Office of Michelle Roman, Esq., LLC., is a boutique firm located in Perth Amboy, that specializes in Matrimonial and Family Law and has been in operation for over 10 years.  Ms. Roman has also served in capacity of Municipal Public Defender for the City of Perth Amboy for over 14 years, where she has represented indigent defendants who could not afford legal counsel.

Ms. Roman has been the recipient of the Woman in Action Award, for Professional of the Year, 2006.  She currently serves as a Board Trustee for the Academy of Urban Leadership, Charter School in Perth Amboy; Middlesex County Bar Association and Hispanic Bar Association.  She has recently served as a co-Judge for the Middlesex County Bar Foundation High School Mock Trial Competition.

Michelle Roman currently resides in the City of Perth Amboy with her partner, Craig Swindell, her mother, Angelica Roman and nephew, Maximiliano Roman, who is currently serving in the United States Marines.
