PERTH AMBOY – Small businesses can enhance their social media presence and digital marketing efforts by taking better business photographs with smartphones. To help local companies get started improving their business picture taking, Perth Amboy, its Mayor Wilda Diaz, and the City’s Business Improvement District (BID) are presenting a “Social Media Marketing Workshop.”

The event’s theme is “Photography for Business” and it is part of the BID’s Neighborhood Business Meetings series. Scheduled for Thursday, April 19th, activities will begin at 6 PM in the La Terrazza Latina restaurant, which is located at 273 High Street in Perth Amboy.

Advance registration is required as space is limited. Businesses can attend for free and a light dinner will be served. To pre-register, visit the BID’s online registration page on Eventbrite or call 732.442.6421.

Mayor Diaz is inviting local companies to attend the workshop. “When we post compelling, images of our City on Facebook and Instagram and share videos of scenic sites on Snapchat, it has created excitement and positive response. With the BID’s help, local business can harness the enormous potential of social media and use it to build their brand. Join us for a lively and fun evening and you’ll leave with useful tips to promote your business.”

The speaker will focus on the value of photography in marketing and selling a company’s products and services.  Professional photographer Paul Scharff is going to suggest easy-to-follow guidelines for taking better photos with a smartphone. He will also provide the best retouching tips so people can quickly enhance their images. In addition, find out about the best retouching apps that can be used with most mobile phones.

In discussing the program, Mr. Scharff said, “Our goal is to help people improve the photos they take with their smartphones. Also, we want business owners to know that there are times when companies need to engage a pro photographer. Professionals can take the type of photos that can strategically advance a business’s marketing efforts. A good example is carefully planned and crafted photos of prepared meals or entrees that a restaurant can use in its menu, advertisements or website.”

The program also includes a question-and-answer session with the heads of Perth Amboy’s key municipal departments. Business owners can speak one-on-one with directors from fire and police departments as well as public works, code enforcement, economic development, and parking utilities.

The City of Perth Amboy and the BID developed the workshop and are receiving support from key businesses and nonprofits.  The sponsors include the Bank of Woodbridge, a division of BCB Community Bank, Perth Amboy Redevelopment Team for Neighborhood Enterprise and Revitalization (P.A.R.T.N.E.R), and Intersect Fund.
