THE COMMUNITY VOICE: Letters to the Editor

Campaigning at the Waterfront Arts Festival

On Saturday May 27, 2017, the City of Perth Amboy held a Waterfront Festival. It was a nice day to have it and everyone was having a very good time – plus the kids love it.

This Waterfront Festival is to be used only for entertainment and having a good time with family and friends. It’s very sad to see the Mayor using it for political reasons by making political speeches and showing us a person running for Governor of New Jersey. People came to the festival to have a good time – not to see and hear the Mayor giving a political speech. Most people at the festival could care less about who is running for Governor. These politicians should know when to do this. At a festival, it’s all in the bag – the time and place and then they wonder why we are not happy to see this.

God Bless This Land

Although our soldiers fought for the right of all citizens, it doesn’t take a genius to see that destructive use of our rights will not advance our culture. This would answer the age old question: “why do people do what they do?”

Memorial Day is a sad day for many; probably as a many as 99% of our country. But what about the other one percent? What do they think?  Probably nothing. We will find them at the liberal colleges, in the streets and even in our own neighborhoods. I recently spent some time at the cemetery and celebrated the lives of our departed and realized that if not for them, we would not have the lives we have now.

This weekend, we’ve seen the American Flag flying but how many realize what that symbol means? It leads our soldiers into battle and for many the flag was the last thing they saw before they closed their eyes forever.

There are people in this country that would stomp on and even burn the flag that so many died for. This despicable display of unpatriotic acts is synonymous with what many democratic leaders adhere to.  If it were not for our Veterans, we would not have the beautiful country in which we now live.

From 1776 to the present, we have been blessed with a country that we should be proud of.  It is unfortunate that we have within our government people who do not understand that a government of, by and for the people means all of us and not a choice few.

God has granted us a beautiful land.  To keep it has been a project for all people, not a few. When we all realize this, then and only then will this country be the chosen one for all. A country is judged by its values and its results.

The flag which we honor represents those that died defending it. When all realize this, we will be united. A hero never steps on the flag but raises the flag with pride and love.

Our fallen heroes have given us the only thing they could have – the peace we now live in. It is too bad it has been marred by some citizens who belittle their sacrifices. Please God, bless this land and its people.
