Council Updates: 6/12/17 Caucus Meeting

PERTH AMBOY – Council President Bill Petrick was happy to report that the Board of Education Member and City Historian Anton J. Massopust was putting together a meeting of interested parties regarding the planned Water Stadium renovations. “There is a feasibility of saving the façade of the Water Stadium Entrance. Per the request of the HPC, they want to get an expert to look into this.”

Next, Councilman Fernando Gonzalez spoke in regard to entering Harbortown from High Street, “Is this a private or a public road?”

Deputy Police Chief Larry Cattano came forward to speak, “This will be under Title 49 Enforcement. You would have to go to Harbortown Management. They have off-duty Officers patrolling at night.”

Councilman Joel Pabon spoke about the same problem, “From the intersection of Buckingham Avenue and High Street when vehicles approach Harbortown is when they start speeding.”

Fernando Gonzalez then added another complaint, “Harbortown people complain about the drug activity taking place in their complex.”

Cattano answered, “Public Works has put in additional lighting.”

“Petrick spoke again and suggested, “LED lights should be placed in the City because they are more efficient.”

There was a question regarding R-236-6/17 which awarded a back payment of $15,863.09 to a Perth Amboy Firefighter. ”

Acting Law Director Peter King told the Council that this firefighter, Robert Wisneski was passed over for training and filed a grievance and won.

Councilman Fernando Gonzalez was astonished because the City hired someone else who was paid and because the original firefighter (Wisneski) was passed over, he was awarded back pay and he is no longer here. “What are we doing?”

Council President Bill Petrick had a question about R-237-6/17 – An Application for the FEMA for Security Grant Program used for maintenance and sustainment of Marine 5 for 3 years and Dive Rescue and Recovery Equipment and training in the amount of $400,000.”

Fire Chief Abraham Pitre gave the breakdown, “$150,000 of that money would be for equipment and $250,000 would be for training for the firefighters for scuba diving.”

No one came up to speak during the public comments portion of the Meeting.

Councilmen Fernando Irizarry and Jelmin Caba were absent at the 6/12/17 Caucus. Also absent was B.A. Adam Cruz.
