Wake Service and Funeral Arrangements for Firefighter Richard W. Leonard – Line of Duty Death

It is with deepest sympathy the department announces the death of Retired Career Firefighter Richard W. Leonard. He passed away on July 30, 2017 due to injuries sustained at a fire on April 19, 1993. This will be a Line of Duty Death Funeral Service for the Perth Amboy Fire Department.

The wake services will be held on Thursday August 3, 2017 at George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson Township, NJ 08527. Public viewing will be from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.

The funeral services will be held on Friday August 4, 2017 at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson Township, NJ 08527 at 9 AM.

The Perth Amboy Fire Department will hold memorial services on Thursday August 3 at 8:00 PM, following the Jackson Mills Fire Department’s Services. All Perth Amboy Fire Department members available to attend please be at Perth Amboy Fire Headquarters in Class A Uniform by 6:00 PM for departure in department vehicles to arrive at the Funeral Home for 7:00 PM to start lining up, unless taking your personal vehicles.

All members of both the career and volunteer divisions of the Perth Amboy Fire Department, if available, are requested to attend the LODD funeral detail on Friday August 4, 2017. All members are requested to be at Fire Headquarters in Class A uniform by 06:45 AM for departure to Jackson where we will be lined up for 07:45 AM. The members of the Perth Amboy Fire Department will be in the procession from the Funeral Home which is set to begin at 08:15 and walk to the Church where Funeral Services will begin at 09:00 AM. Following the funeral mass will be ceremonial services outside of the Church, followed by a Perth Amboy Fire Department and Jackson Mills Fire Department procession past the Leonard’s residence, ending at the Jackson Mills Fire Station where repass services are set. 465 North Countyline Road, Jackson Township, NJ.

All out of town Fire Departments attending the Line of Duty Death Funeral Services on Friday August 4th are asked to be at St. Aloyuis’s Church by 08:00 AM to line up a “sea of blue” for the procession from the funeral home to the Church (which is approximately 800’ away) and then to attend the 09:00 AM mass with memorial services immediately following outside. Please do not bring fire apparatus as parking may be limited the day of the Funeral. Any outside agencies attending please email a headcount to emullen@perthamboynjfd.org
