5 Males Arrested for an Armed Robbery at Gun Point of a Local Taxi Driver

PERTH AMBOY – On 8/4/2017 Perth Amboy Police responded to an Armed Robbery of a local taxi driver, in which the taxi driver was held up at gun point by one of the suspects who was able to make off with $80.00 from the victim. The armed suspects then fled the area in a Black BMW. The victim was able to obtain a partial plate and after a subsequent investigation by the Detective Bureau the vehicle involved, the weapon, and the suspects were apprehended a short time later.

All 5 suspects including one 17 year juvenile were from Carteret N.J.  The gun that was recovered was a black in color 9mm Taurus semi-automatic handgun, model PT 99AF loaded with 9mm full metal jacket ammunition.

All 5 were charged with Conspiracy, Robbery, and several Weapons offenses, including Possession of a defaced firearm.

The adult males arrested were 19 year old James R. Ward Jr, 19 year old Jean Cortes, 18 year old Eric Gomez, and 18 year old Romeo Dort, including the juvenile, all from Carteret, N.J.

All of the arrestees are being held in MCACC until their bail hearing later this week.

PERTH AMBOY – At approximately 9:26 P.M., on Friday, July 22, 2017, members of the Perth Amboy Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau assisted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic’s Task Force executed a Superior Court Search Warrant at 901 Florida Grove Rd., in Keasbey, N.J., and a 2013 Jeep Wrangler where a large amount of narcotics along with paraphernalia utilized to package and process narcotics was seized from the residence and two vehicles.  The Jeep Wrangler driven by Ariel Melendez, age 29, of Perth Amboy, N.J. along with passenger Leslie Hernandez age 27 also of Perth Amboy, N.J. arrived at the residence and both individuals were arrested when approximately 46 grams of marijuana packaged for individual sale, 13.5 percocet pills, and numerous baggies were recovered from the vehicle.  Melendez and Hernandez were charged with 2nd degree possession with intent to distribute.  $400.00 cash was seized from Melendez.

A search of the residence yielded approximately 340 grams of cocaine, 252 individual packages of heroin, approximately 28 grams of raw heroin, approximately 176 grams of marijuana, 22 xanax pills, and a large amount of paraphernalia which included scales, sandwich bags, large heat sealers and bags, electric grinder, tape, measuring spoons, along with over 1,000 empty glassine envelopes utilized to package heroin.  Natalie Rojas age 25 of Keasbey, N.J. was arrested and charged with 1st. degree Maintaining a CDS production facility, 1st. degree possession of over 5 ounces of cocaine with the intent to distribute, 2nd. degree possession of over ½ ounce of heroin with the intent to distribute amongst a multitude of other charges.  Shawn Massey age 34 of Keasbey, N.J. was also charged but not yet arrested.

The CDS seized has an approximate overall street value of over $40,000.00.  The investigation was led by Detective Ethan Boyd.  Woodbridge Police Department’s Special investigations Unit arrived on scene and assisted with the search.

PERTH AMBOY – At approximately 3:43 P.M. on Friday, 07/21/2017, members of the Perth Amboy Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau assisted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force executed a Superior Court Search Warrant at 68 Brighton Ave. where approximately 24 grams of cocaine, 24 grams of marijuana, and various paraphernalia was recovered from the residence. Arrested was Omar Juarez-Perez age 32 who was charged with 2nd Degree possession of cocaine over ½ ounce with the intent to distribute and various other charges.
The CDS seized has an approximate street value of over $2,500.00.  The investigation was led by Detective Mathew Vazquez.

PERTH AMBOY – On 7/31/2017 on or about 0315hrs, P.O. Luis Marte-Estevez observed a black Nissan Sentra in the Harborside Marina on Front St.  P.O. Marte-Estevez observed a male and female sleeping in the car and he attempted to get the passenger’s attention.  The driver then rolled down the passenger side window, and the officer could smell the odor of raw marijuana emanating from the inside of the vehicle.  During a search of the vehicle, the passenger admitted to police that there was a gun in the trunk of the vehicle.  During the search of the car a small amount of marijuana was found and .38 Special revolver were seized.

Jamila Paige of Parlin and Tahmed Patterson of Rahway were both charged with Possession of Marijuana under 50 grams, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes.

Det. Dennis Marte of the Perth Amboy Police Department conducted his investigation, and it was found that Patterson had used the gun in a shooting in Rahway, NJ on 7/30/2017, where one victim was shot in the arm, and was additionally being charged by the Rahway Police Dept.
