Letters to the Editor: THE COMMUNITY VOICE

New Jersey Governor Race, Ladies, it’s a no Brainer!

With the upcoming gubernatorial election in a few weeks I was unsure of who to support until I listened to Michele Obama make her speech at the Inbound 2017 Conference.

Michelle Obama’s message for women voters –

(CNN)In candid remarks Wednesday, former first lady Michelle Obama said women who voted for Republican nominee Donald Trump over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton went against their “authentic voice” in the 2016 presidential election.

“Any woman who voted against Hillary Clinton voted against their own voice,” she said at the Inbound 2017 conference in Boston, according to video from inside the event.

“What does it mean for us as women that we look at those two candidates, as women, and many of us said, that guy, he’s better for me, his voice is more true to me,” Obama said. “Well, to me that just says you don’t like your voice. You like the thing you’re told to like.”

After listening to this I thought she’s right, I want my voice heard and thanks to Michele Obama,  I,  as a woman am going to give my support and vote to Kim Guadagno for Governor, and with the speech, belief and spirit of the former first lady I know Michele Obama feels the same.  After all she is a woman and needs the voice of women to support her and support women.   We as women do think for ourselves and have a strong voice in ALL elections.  I hope you join me and vote for Kim Guadagno for Governor. Make your voice heard!

92 Vacant Houses!!!

The Amboy Ambler II sees a problem, a big problem as he ambles and is seeking a solution—can anyone help the Ambler??????

The Ambler is ambling again because he had to walk 5 blocks to my home after parking my car. I got home from work and there were no parking places to be had at all, it was 10 p.m. so that meant the filled-up spaces were all from residents. Can that many people live here??? I decided to investigate.

Step 1 was to amble about looking at houses and I saw many homes that were similar as they were all built at the same time BUT they were altered, porches covered up, dormers built and sections added to the side back etc.  This was done to allow for more people. Ambling further I saw many driveways with 2, 3, even 4 cars in them, that means lots of people own those cars. Next, I drove up and down many streets and saw absolutely no parking spaces anywhere and cars parked in driveways and back yards. Backyards that used to be places where swings, sand boxes and gardens were, are now cement and cars. That means lots of people are there!!

Step 2 was to investigate the various neighborhoods for empty spaces—no open space none, none!  Houses are very close, no breathing room– so lots of people on each block and lots and lots of cars!!

Step 3 was to look for empty houses and low and behold I saw quite a few empty houses.  People with great knowledge informed me that there are 92 empty houses some being abandoned (or at least look like it).

Now a solution appears in view: there are 92 places to put cars, gardens, pocket parks and other interesting stuff.  But wait a minute I have seen new housing being built!! Why?? We have 92 empty houses! Why build more? (Those buildings will bring more cars) Perhaps a moratorium on building new houses, instead refurbish, re build or demolish the vacant properties and then build. Sort of recycle our properties????

Now a question appears or is it a situation??  We have 92 vacant houses, we have no parking places for those who reside here, houses packed together and altered for more people, and WE ARE BUILBING MORE HOUSES AND APARTMENTS!!!!!

The Ambler says there are many problems here and very few solutions being offered but I do not think more building is the solution.  To quote the Music Man: “There is trouble right here in River City.”
