SOUTH AMBOY – The South Amboy City Council congratulated Craig Coughlin on his new role as New Jersey Assembly Speaker.

Coughlin, who has been serving as chairman of the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee, served on the South Amboy Board of Education from 1983-87 and South Amboy City Council from 1987-1993. Coughlin now takes over as the third most powerful elected official in the state and the first attorney chosen for the position in 15 years.

“Congratulations Craig, a lot of hard work, well deserved and it’s nice that one of own has climbed to that position,” Councilman Tom Reilly said.

“He and I started together on the dais, me as the Law Director, he as the elected Council President January 1, 1987,” City Attorney John Lanza said. “I worked with Craig for a number of years and what I can say about Craig is he is a good man above everything else. I wish him well in his new position, it is well earned and well deserved.”

Council members also sent their condolences to the family of Stan Marcinczyk, who passed away on October 21st at the age of 81.

“He was a Sayreville resident, but he was important not only to Sayreville but to South Amboy and the county,” Councilwoman Zusette Dato said. “He was a teacher, he was the county undersheriff, he was the business administrator here. In many ways he gave of himself his time, I’m sure his family had to sacrifice him, so I’d like to remember Stan and thank his family for sharing Stan with us.”

“He was very good for South Amboy,” Mayor Fred Henry said. “He will be missed.”

Council President Mickey Gross and Councilman Brian McLoughlin were not in attendance for last Monday’s council meeting. Councilwoman-At-Large Christine Noble ran the meeting in the interim.

The next city council meeting will be held on December 20th at 7:00 p.m.
