American Idol Finalist to Visit Old Bridge

Scott MacIntyre to share his message of hope at Hackensack Meridian Health’s free Vassar Vision Awareness Day, November 30

Press Release 11/22/17

OLD BRIDGE – Born blind, former American Idol finalist Scott MacIntyre knows what it means to persevere despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles.  MacIntyre will share his message of hope and three secrets to living a fulfilling life amidst incredible adversity at Hackensack Meridian Health’s Mitchell Vassar Vision Awareness Day on Thursday, November 30, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Grand Marquis, 1550 Route 9 South, Old Bridge, NJ.

This free event, focusing on “The Beauty in Life: Living with a Chronic Medical Condition,” includes lunch and a resource fair with exhibitions from an array of Hackensack Meridian Healthnetwork services and programs. Also, unwanted glasses will be collected for the Lions Club Recycle for Sight Program, benefiting visually impaired adults and children.  In addition to Scott’s presentation, representatives from the NJ Sharing Network will discuss the benefits of organ donation and transplantation.

MacIntyre is an acclaimed speaker, singer-songwriter, scholar, and author. At 19 years old, he was diagnosed with stage-four kidney failure, but received a transplant that saved his life. Less than a year later, he ended up on one of the biggest stages in the world – American Idol. As the first blind finalist on the show, he has inspired audiences on overcoming adversity, motivation, and the importance of education. MacIntyre’s heartfelt songs and powerful voice take his audiences on an emotional journey of hardship and hope, entreating listeners that no matter what life brings their way, life is always worth living to the fullest.

The Mitchell Vassar Bright Future Legacy was made possible by a generous gift from Janice Mitchell Vassar. This gift to Hackensack Meridian Health has made a positive impact on New Jersey’s visually impaired individuals by making educational opportunities available for patients and caregivers, sponsoring Vision Awareness Day, and offering free screenings to the community.

Registration is required for the event, please call 1-800-560-9990 or visithackensackmeridianhealth.org/beautyinlife.
