Movie Review: Paddington 2

By Anton Massopust III

“Be polite and the world will be right.”

Paddington Brown, in the new movie “Paddington 2” features that lovable marmalade eating bear has returned to the big screen. He has a helpful, kind nature that brings joy to everyone meets. He makes new friends wherever he goes. But, what Paddington wants most in the world right now is to get a birthday present for his beloved Aunt Lucy. He tries to earn enough money to buy a very expensive pop-up book from his friend who runs an antique store. While he’s trying to earn the extra money doing odd jobs around his neighborhood, a thief steals the book and blames Paddington for it. Pennington is sent to jail and while he tries to make new friends there. Meanwhile the Brown family (the family who takes care of Paddington) try to figure out why this thief has stolen this book, and to clear Paddington’s name.

I love the special effects in this film. It’s the same quality of the original “Paddington.” The production company uses models and colors which give excellent special effects. Everything around it is almost like a character within the film itself. Hugh Grant plays the Gentleman Thief. An over the top actor, he steals the show. There are many other notable British actors who you might remember from several British shows including Hugh Bonneville from Downton Abbey and Peter Capaldi from Doctor Who. The performances are outstanding with these wonderfully quirky characters that add to Paddington’s world. They are very funny and add to a wonderful movie you can take the entire family to. There’s a little bit of drama here and there because you feel for this character you want to succeed.
