Praising Former Law Director Mark Blunda

1/24/18 Council Meeting

PERTH AMBOY – Re: Communication No. 4 – Mark J. Blunda of Appruzzese, McDermott, Mastor & Murphy submitted a copy of an Order of the Supreme Court of NJ dismissing the Petitions for Certification filed by Safeco Insurance Company, TAK Construction and Interstate Industrial following the Appellate Division’s affirmance of the trial court judgement of June 30, 2014.

Resident Ken Balut wanted to express what a wonderful job that Mark Blunda did when he worked here. “I watched him in action. He was a gentleman and took on the big companies. He handled bigger cases for less money.” He stated that Firms that came after him were disrespectful. “The ethics is really bad, now. Write a letter to Blunda thanking him. He saved us millions.”

Resident Alan Silber came up. He talked briefly about the Law Director who was here prior to Blunda (Frank Capece). “That Law Director made sure he put a resolution on the agenda to have him get paid his money. How much was that? Mr. Blunda by himself versus 5 people (other lawyers) on the other side successfully won a case. Blunda went into closed session and was told he was being replaced.”

Council President Bill Petrick agreed with the praises that Balut and Silber heaped upon Blunda. He stated, “We (the Council) should send a letter thanking Mr. Blunda.”

Councilman Fernando Irizarry then added, “We should have the Mayor draft a resolution about this.”

Councilman Fernando Gonzalez said, “Regardless, we should just do it.”
