Leslie Dominguez-Rodriguez Address at Jan. 22 Council Meeting

Good evening, and Happy New Year to you all!

It is so sad when concerned citizens, taxpayers, and residents who speak out during our council meetings or attending, continue to be harassed and bullied by local administration. It is even sadder to know that former councilman Fernando Gonzalez was attacked verbally after the first meeting of the year by the husband of Mayor Diaz.

This is not the first time an individual as well as others including myself have been bullied by our current administration and or her closest supporters. This form of harassment is one of the main reasons many citizens are afraid to attend the meeting let alone express their opinion and can lead to a potential lawsuit against our municipality if not stopped.

Politics as usual plays a role in this behavior. Individuals in politics are attacked everyday by the media and their opponents, but when a concerned citizen who expresses their opinion at a council meeting is attacked soon after, it is intolerable.

Although our council president Pabon stresses the do’s and don’ts at the beginning of the meetings, it is obvious that some don’t adhere to it. And it is obvious that our law enforcement have not protected our concern citizens from this act of harassment, especially to a former councilman. Therefore, I am calling upon our council president Pabon to reach out to our Middlesex County Sheriff Dept. and see if they can provide security during and after everyone leaves our council meeting twice a month. If need so.

If there is a cost to having safety and security during our council meetings, I am sure our taxpayers will agree well spent and appreciated. Please advice of your attentions to resolve this security matter as soon as possible. Thank you .
