Tom O’Leary

SOUTH AMBOY — A 30 month sentence and a $12,000 fine was given to former executive director for the South Amboy Housing Authority Thomas O’Leary. Also imposed upon O’Leary will be 3 years of supervised release.

In March 2012 O’Leary pleaded guilty to tax evasion. He also pleaded guilty to a conspiracy to defraud the Federal Election Commission.

In 2006 Perth Amboy Mayor Joseph Vas ran for a congressional seat. O’Leary participated in a scheme to recruit straw donors for Vas’ campaign. Vas is currently serving time on State and Federal Corruption charges.

O’Leary also conspired with an insurance broker to help him recruiting the straw donors.
