I completely agree with Tom Clark’s sentiments in his letter, “Let’s Stay on the Same Page,” in the 5/8/13 Guardian. It is bothersome that our fair city by the bay has become bi-lingual. Since its beginning a few centuries ago, English has been the dominant language. For generations immigrants or different languages and cultures learned to speak English in order to become better Americans. My parents came from Austria-Hungary as teenagers strived to learn English to become naturalized American citizens. I started school not knowing English at No. 6 School now the site of the Holy Trinity Church. Some folks would say that I still do not speak good English as tarnished by my frequent overseas trips. But that’s their problem.
The latest immigrants have become the dominant cultural group in this City. We have become bi-lingual. Many do not even want to learn to speak English. They have forced their language to be used in all government actions. I wonder if the naturalization process is conducted in languages other than English. And how about ballots on election day?
With all of this going on, how can you blame them for not speaking English! But! Boy! Do they learn fast our money system!
Regardless of the clash of cultures there is one area of human conduct which is universal. And that is the language between males and females which is the language of Romance, Passion and Love! La Lengua de Amour! It transcends all barriers of race, ethnicity and status of Life. For instance, there was no spoken or written language at the time of Adam and Eve. That is, if you believe the old testament of the Bible,.
VIVA AMOUR!
Thank you for your courtesies.
Very Truly Yours,
Peter Book, a.k.a. Pedro Libro
