PERTH AMBOY —  Mayor Wilda Diaz will be joined by members of the community for the Ringing of the Replica of the Liberty Bell at 2:00 p.m. on the 4th of July to memorialize the 236th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, as Perth Amboy was once the capital of East Jersey.

A procession from the Proprietary House located at 149 Kearny Avenue will begin at 12:30 p.m. and proceed to the bell ringing. The bell for the State of New Jersey is located in City Hall Circle in Perth Amboy (260 High Street) and is rung 13 times at 2:00 p.m., once ring for each of the 13 colonies.

The entire event is free and open to the public.
