COMMUNITY VOICE: Raise the NJ Standard Deduction

There is a plan to increase the minimum wage in New Jersey by one dollar. California raised its minimum wage to $10 earlier this year. This will be done by a constitutional amendment so the governor can’t stop it. What special interests does he represent? Isn’t this another argument for having Initiative and Referendum in New Jersey?

There is another item that is even more outdated. When NJ began its income tax in 1977 it set the personal exemption at $1,000 to match the Federal amount. After 35 years it has never been raised! I urge the Legislature to raise it to at least $4,000 to match the Federal amount.
