Out-of-Towner Notes Danger

PERTH AMBOY – Recently I was talking to an acquaintance who lives out of town but works at a business in Perth Amboy.

This person takes Market Street to get to his place of employment. He said he was “astonished” to see this utility pole hang this far out into the street. He was concerned what would happen if it was hit by a car and came down. It could possibly cause injury not only to a person walking by or damage a vehicle or any occupants in it.

Even if no  one was bodily injured, it could cause great damage to the homes on that block leading to the loss of utilities (phone, electric, etc.). Could a spark from the wires  cause a fire?

He wanted to know if I knew anyone who lived in that neighborhood and if they had called in to complain about the pole. If they haven’t, they should do so as soon as possible. It’s a safety issue.

Response:

PERTH AMBOY – A Market Street resident stated that they contacted every possible person regarding this problem. This included representatives from the City, Verizon, Comcast and PSE&G. These representatives have seen the pole and reports have been made. “I can do no more. The police and fire department have been notified. Everybody has been notified about the danger of the pole. The pole has been standing there for over 70 years, but it was straighter than it is currently,” states the resident. “Several utility companies were afraid to climb the pole and used bucket trucks.”
