The 31st Annual QuickChek Balloon Festival, July 26-28, 2013

READINGTON – This annual festival takes place in the last weekend in July. We decided to go on what we felt would be the best day which was Saturday, July 27th. The forecast called for sunny skies, warm temperatures and little to no precipitation. Apparently many others had the same thought to go on that same day. The parking lot was almost filled to capacity. The food lines were extremely long and the most popular item to buy was water. As a matter of fact, some of the food stands ran out of that very popular drink.

Elvis wishes everyone a safe trip home.

There was much anticipation and excitement about the balloon ascension which was supposed to occur around 6:45 p.m. The afternoon balloon rides were completely sold out, even at a price of $225 a pop. There was an announcement that tether rides at $25 per person were still available. Unfortunately, although the skies were clear and the temperatures were comfortable at 6:45 p.m., the winds did not cooperate and the balloons could not ascend into the sky. Some balloons were temporarily inflated and held by a large amount of manpower and strong rope

But I have memories of past balloon festivals. Some of the shapes and figures that flew through the air were so awesome that you could not believe your eyes. This year, Elvis was in the house. (See photo at right.)
