SAYREVILLE – During Governor Christie’s speech on 10/29/13 he made it quite clear that he was on a mission and he would not abandon the residents until his mission is complete and the job is done.
There were 3 stages after the damage done by Hurricane Sandy: Recover, Relief and Rebuilding.
12,000 workers from out of state came into New Jersey to help out. 100 homes in Sayreville were offered a buyout.
“I have been called a bully by some people. People in New Jersey don’t get insulted by that title if you are fighting for something that you believe in,” Christie stated.
He told those gathered, “You have a partner and a friend in me as long as you need me. Just hang in there and we will hang in there with you. Remember, there are still those in need,”
Christie related the story of a widow who lived on Weber Street. “On my visit here, shortly after the storm, she took me by the hand to go through the ruins of her house. Township officials and my people who accompanied me from the state were very nervous because the house was not very stable. As we went through her house I remember her showing me her husband’s chair that she would sit in to comfort her to bring back pleasant memories, amongst other mementos which were now in ruins.”
He remembered the smell of the mold and other rotting materials. Most of all, he remembered her, even though he did not recall her name.”
