Where Are There Shelters?

Women Left in the Cold

PERTH AMBOY – Resident Reinaldo Aviles came before the Council at the 11/13/13 Council Meeting. He was very concerned about the Salvation Army no longer taking women at the shelter.

There was some discussion as to the lack of shelter for women. It was mentioned that the closest shelters are located in Edison Township.

Men have to be referred by social services, and there is no transportation to and from there. Police Chief Ruiz said that the Salvation Army has a restriction on the times that the men can be in the facility. In the wintertime the police will pick up anyone that needs help.
