After School Digital Documentary Filmmaking Class Will Tell Stories of Superstorm Sandy

PERTH AMBOY – High School students in grades 9-12 from Perth Amboy will have the opportunity to work with professional filmmakers and use high-end production equipment to create short films that will be screened across the state and in a Perth Amboy Film Festival.

The new digital documentary filmmaking class is being offered by the Boys and Girls Club of Perth Amboy and Colab Arts from New Brunswick. The class meets at the Academy for Urban Leadership High School (AUL) after school every Tuesday and Thursday 4-6 pm and every Saturday 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in classroom 201. Space is limited to 25 students. The students will work in production teams and produce short films focusing on Superstorm Sandy recovery.

Students will also go on class trips, including a visit to YouTube Studios in New York City.

For Spring 2014, the student films will be screened across the state and will be featured at a film festival planned by the Boys and Girls Club of Perth Amboy.

* The class is free and is made possible through funding from the New Jersey Recovery Fund.

* The class is open to any Perth Amboy resident grade 9-12.
