SOUTH AMBOY – With Christmas upon us, South Amboy has the spirit. Broadway was dressed in full Christmas splendor. The streetlights are decorated, the wreaths are hung, and the glow of glistening lights are all ablaze.
The plaza was a hub of excitement with people and children gathering to hear Christmas Carols, sip hot chocolate and wait for Santa to arrive. Sacred Heart students could be heard singing Christmas favorites, then the bell ringers were all in tune with wonderful sounds of Christmas. Soon Santa emerged from the doors of City Hall to meet each child at the plaza.
It was wonderful to see so many children lined up to get the chance to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what they wished to receive for Christmas. Soon after Mayor Henry started the count down for the tree lighting. All the lights came on and the tall tree in front of city hall looked spectacular!
Then it was time for the parade of lights. The fire departments and first aid all dressed their vehicles for the Christmas Parade. People were lined up on both sides of Broadway to see the emergency vehicles all dressed up and wonder, who the winner would be.
At the conclusion of the parade, Mayor Henry announced that the South Amboy First Aid won first place. As he presented them with the trophy the squad stood very proud as they should. South Amboy First Aid is comprised of all volunteers who devote their time helping others. They go over and beyond the call of duty to help anyone in need. South Amboy residents are very lucky to have this group of professionals who are devoted to their profession who respond within minutes to an emergency call.
It was a long night and a beautiful event. All the workers who put this festival together did a wonderful job. It was a great time for all and the children left smiling, knowing that soon Christmas will be here and they will all have their visit from Santa.
