Security Officer From Raritan Bay Medical Center Arrested For Theft

PERTH AMBOY – On Thursday, Jan. 23, Rodolfo Ruiz, age 34, was arrested and charged with theft. Rodolfo was employed by the Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division, as a Security Officer.

The theft occurred after a patient that was being treated in the emergency room, was transferred to another room for continued treatment. She left her purse behind during the transfer. An orderly of the hospital found the purse and turned it over to Security Officer Ruiz.

But before returning the purse to the patient, Ruiz went through it and removed her debit card. Ruiz then left the hospital, while he was still working and went down the street to Jezsif Fried Chicken located at 481 New Brunswick Avenue. There he utilized the stolen debit card and withdrew a total of $1,400 in US currency.

As Police Officer Jose Santiago was speaking with the victim and gathering information for the police report, Ruiz arrived and attempted to give back the stolen money. Ruiz was charged with theft and bail was set in the amount of $5,000 with no 10 percent option by the Honorable Judge Maria Del Valle-Koch.
