COMMUNITY VOICE: Towed in Perth Amboy

Had to tell someone my horrible experience dealing with being towed. I live in Harbor Terrace..Sat night I squeezed my jeep (which is very small comparatively speaking-my friend calls it a Tonka toy truck) into a spot but overlapped the line I guess..(I’m sorry-ok?) The snow hid it’s cutoff point. It wasn’t a dangerous spot… I thought I could get away with it.. (carrying my 2 year old grandchild plus groceries in the cold.. At night… yada yada)

The next day it was gone (yesterday). I called the cops who told me it was towed. This is what I learned.

The sign doesn’t tell you the towing company is closed for collecting your car on Sunday’s (but always open for pickups 😉 ) -so don’t bust your back trying to get there asap… Nor does it tell you hours of opening so you have to call to ask for this information and they will hang up on you if you’re not nice (that would be me 🙁 ).

If you call on weekends you’re probably going to be speaking to the guy who towed you…(So don’t yell at him either-he doesn’t care anyway).

The bill reads like this:

Towing Charge:$75.00 Special Equipment:$50.00 Storage:(Inc. Sunday) $60.00 Tax: (4%?) $7.70 Total $192.70. Cash only !!!! (Who has that to spare in there bank account?? My friend (Thank God) had Super Bowl pool money to lend me. (I have until Sunday Pregame to pay it back. (biting my nails)

Why can’t I just say I’m sorry and I won’t do it again ?

Why is it legal to charge so much ??

Very upset,

Roisin Dowling (Formerly Lewis)
