PERTH AMBOY – When you think of Black History one cannot ignore the fact that Mr. Harold G. Lincoln, his late wife Mrs. Ethel K. Lincoln and hundreds of dedicated citizens, club members fought for housing, jobs education, health and against discrimination. It was not an easy task.
He was President of the Perth Amboy Colored Democratic Club. Later becoming President of United Democratic Clubs until his death on January 22, 1980. Harold helped anyone that needed help. He gave his last to help the needy when they fought for the first Black Police Officer, the late Walter Gibson, First Black Fireman, George, etc. He always stressed – put 100% in any job, help open the doors for others to follow family members included as well as others.
Mr. Lincoln organized the first Black Drum and Bugle Corp. He met with the President the Flagstaff Foods Corp. They were the corps sponsors. Boys and girls from Perth Amboy and all over rushed to join Mr. Lincoln help to mold their lives. All was very proud happy. The Corps name was Flagstaff Drum and Bugle Corp of Perth Amboy. They became state champs – beautiful in every way.
