PRAHD Honors Henry Rodgers – Perth Amboy 2/21/14

PERTH AMBOY – Officer Rodgers is a product of Public and Catholic Schools in Perth Amboy. St. Michael’s Catholic School influenced Rodgers, making him aware of culture, religion and family.

While attending Perth Amboy High School, he became interested in sports (football and wrestling) which taught him teamwork, sportsmanship and how to persevere.

Rodgers was introduced to the NJROTC by a retired Naval Officer, Commander Paul. The NJROTC helped Rodgers in building his character.

He studied Elementary Education and Child Psychology while attending the Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Rodgers decided that Law Enforcement is what he wanted to pursue.

His father, Rev. Henry Rodgers II was a role model. Henry looked up to his dad, who had a 31 year career with the NJ State Dept. of Corrections.

After joining the Perth Amboy Police Dept. in 1992 Rodgers became involved in many community programs. Some of them include the D.A.R.E. Program, Don’t Talk To Strangers and Bicycle Safety to name a few.

He has also taken courses to deal with terrorist attacks involving weapons of mass destruction. These courses are sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Justice for Domestic Preparedness.

Rodgers has been recognized for his work in the community by the following organizations: the Perth Amboy NAACP, the PBA Local 13, the FOP Lodge 80, the Perth Amboy Chamber of Commerce, PRAHD at their annual Roberto Clemente Gala and PAMA.

Rodgers is a member of the Cathedral International Church, Perth Amboy NAACP, the National Black Law Enforcement Officers and the NJ National Latino Law Enforcement Association.

The Rodgers family includes his wife: Nitzaliz Lopez-Rodgers and their children Summer Joy and Evan Henri Yo- siah.
