PERTH AMBOY – In October, students of Perth Amboy were offered the opportunity to take part in a rigorous six month documentary class. In collaboration with the Jewish Renaissance Foundation and The Boys and Girls Club, a grant was received through the New Jersey Recovery Act.
During the program, professional film teachers taught students the elements and techniques that go into photography, storytelling, and making a documentary film, in efforts to give each student the opportunity to create and direct his or her own piece on the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Students were expected to dedicate six hours of in-class work and more outside work as well to their individual pieces.
These documentary students have had the opportunity to work closely with film equipment, interview a wide range of individuals, edit their work, and consequently tell their own story. Final stages of the production will be available for viewing by the public sometime during the month of April.
