Perth Amboy’s Annual Puerto Rican Festival Moves To New Location

Press Release
PERTH AMBOY – El Comité Patriótico Cultural Puertorriqueño, the organizing committee of the Annual Puerto Rican Festival, traditionally held on Hall Avenue in Perth Amboy, NJ, announced today that the festival has found a new home.

The president of the organizing committee, Jacqueline Quiles, said that because the festival attendance has increased significantly in the past several years the decision was made to move the festival to accommodate the larger crowds and the increased number of vendors who participate in the event every year.

This year’s festival will take place at its new location, Stanley P. Rudyk Park, 500 Valley Place, Perth Amboy as follows:

Friday, June 6, from 3 – 11 p.m. Saturday, June 7, from noon – 11 p.m. Sunday, June 8, from noon – 9 p.m.

Stanley P. Rudyk Park is just a few city blocks from the original “Avenida Puerto Rico.” The park is located in the center of what is known as “El Barrio Puertorriqueño,” known to local Perth Amboy residents as “Rudyk Park.” The 7.5 acres of recreational space includes a large festival area and the legendary Roberto Clemente Baseball Stadium. In 2000, the City of Perth Amboy honored the legacy of Roberto Clemente by naming the newly constructed stadium in his name.

Thousands of residents visit the park annually to participate in various athletic contests, family gatherings and to partake in fitness exercises. It is, therefore, with great anticipation that the new home of one of Puerto Rico’s most illustrious citizens is now host to the largest Puerto Rican festival in the State of New Jersey.

“We trust the residents of Perth Amboy will be pleased with the new venue as it provides sufficient space for more rides for the children, a larger area for more vendors, and it provides an additional level of security in that people have more room to move around freely. As in years past, we will highlight the traditions of Puerto Rico, and it is going to be a great celebration of our culture only it’s going to be bigger and better! We want to thank the community and our sponsors for making this event what it is today,” Quiles said.

Additionally, Quiles said that they are proud to announce that their headliner this year is none other than, “El bebe de la Salsa,” Jerry Rivera. Rivera holds the record for the most sold salsa albums in history and has also held the number 1 spot in the Latin American Billboards for three consecutive months.
