Veteran Widow’s Organization Honors Military Women
Press Release –
EDISON – Women are an invaluable and crucial asset to the armed forces in the United States. Often we hear about their military presence wrapped around controversial issues.
On Friday, May 23, 2014, 7:30 pm, the first Black Tie Dinner Dance honoring 17 women in uniform from all branches of the military that served and continue to serve in our nation’s defense will take place. The purpose of the dinner is to bring admiration and honor to the Unsung Military Sheroe who are actively serving in the military or a woman veteran who was honorably discharged.
This event held at the Pines Manor, 2085 Lincoln Highway, Edison, New Jersey is sponsored by the Eight Flames of Hope Foundation. This is a New Jersey registered non-profit organization founded by Veteran Widow, Barbara Walker. Mrs. Walker is passionate about honoring those who serve our country. Her passion is fueled by the memory of her husband, SSG Johnnie A. Walker and his high school friends who all served in Vietnam. Barbara Walker stated, “They died in service for our country and my purpose will always be to celebrate their lives and the lives of all who sacrifice much for our safety. Honoring women in the military is an essential part of the mission of Eight Flames of Hope.”
According to the Women In Military Service For America Memorial, located at the Ceremonial Entrance to Arlington National Cemetery, “Women have always volunteered in defense of our nation, many of their contributions have been forgotten and are not recorded in today’s history books.” Barbara Walker said, “Eight Flames of Hope will champion the Unsung Military Sheroe and work towards highlighting her contributions to our country.”
Tickets per person are $75 with all proceeds of the dinner donated to military women in need and community organizations helping students majoring in science, technology, engineering and math. The Team Walker Community Center of Jersey City and the Puerto Rican Association for Human Development of Perth Amboy will be recipients of proceeds.
